Spotlight on NEW FACULTY

Dr. Stewart Diemont has joined the Dept. of Environmental Resources and Forest Engineering at SUNY-ESF. His research combines ecological engineering and anthropology to investigate the rainforest management practices of Mayan communities in Central America.

Dr. Jason Fridley joined the SU Biology Dept. in 2006. He specializes in the dynamic geography of plant diversity, including plant distributions, plant invasions, and their consequences for ecosystems.

Dr. David Newman is the new Chair of Forest and Natural Resources Management at SUNY-ESF. His research concerns forest economics, land use policy, and property taxation. He has published widely on issues of conservation easements, land trusts, and the relationship between property values and conservation.

ESF creates a new CENTER FOR THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT

The new center, headed by Dr. Myrna Hall of the Dept. of Environmental Studies, has these priorities:

  • Investigating and developing novel ways to mitigate urban environmental problems
  • Educating and training the next generation of urban environmental scientists, engineers, and planners
  • Engaging urban residents in the study and improvement of the urban environment, and
  • Working with communities, business, industries, governmental and non-governmental organizations throughout New York State to achieve a more sustainable future.
