Announcing the 2008 Environmental Studies Summit at Arkansas State University

About the first Environmental Studies Summit in
Santa Barbara
, 2006

Why another Summit?
2nd Environmental Studies Summit @ Syracuse

The Second Environmental Studies Summit is planned for June 7-9, 2007, in Syracuse, NY, hosted by Syracuse University and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. The second summit is a sequel to the very successful Santa Barbara Summit on Environmental Studies that took place in February, 2006.

Part of what made the first summit so successful was its informal, participatory structure, which made for thoughtful discussion and helped build community around the issues that most affect professionals in environmental studies and related fields. We hope to build on that experience in Syracuse, which is why we invite your active engagement in brainstorming about the event. Please join the electronic discussion about planning the conference, or send your suggestions (topics, speakers, field trips, etc.) to the conference organizer.

The Planning Committee has decided that the Second Environmental Summit should draw upon local treasures and local case studies in Syracuse and Central New York. Our keynote speakers have close ties to the area and exemplify the ways that interdisciplinary knowledge and concerns can lead to transformative and inspiring work. We hope that Summit participants will take advantage of the field trips and other opportunities to get to know the area and experience the host institutions' strong academic engagement with this place.
