Dzhazator
The village of Dzhazator sits in the mountains just north of the Ukok Plateau and the border with China and Mongolia. We stayed in the home of a Kazakh family who cared for us with extreme grace and hospitality. Our host took us hiking along the Dzhazator River to the rapids. Our hostess was an extraordinary textile artist, and their home was filled with her beautiful felt rugs (srmaki) and embroidered wall hangings.
